Cadman Book Club Event-06-24-14 “Knish, In Search of the Jewish Soul Food” by Laura Silver

Author Laura Silver (holding book) is pictured with Daniel Cainer, a musician/storyteller from London. Also pictured is Noodle Pudding owner Antonio Migliacco and Amy Longo.

Ms. Silver was a delightful speaker. She traced the origins of knishes for the audience from an essay to an in-depth book. Locations included Poland, Croatia, Israel, Minneapolis and of course Brooklyn. There were about 40 people in attendance, including the owner of our neighborhood restaurant “Noodle Pudding”. The audience asked and received answers to quite a few questions. After Ms. Silver’s talk, mushroom, spinach and potato knishes were served with beverages.

Thank you to long time shareholder Bertha Lowitt for inviting her friend to speak to us. Thank you to the Book Club members for their work and Anne Reed for Chairing the event.
The CPN shareholders are invited to join the Book Club in September and suggest a book.

Updated Gardening Report

Acer_palmatum0

The bad news is that our perennial tulips did not make an appearance this Spring which we’re guessing might be due to the unusually harsh winter. The good news is that we have two new Japanese maples at the front entrance and two new dracaena plants at the lobby entrance.  Summer flowers were planted the beginning of June in our three big tree planters. Thanks to our staff for filling them with much needed new soil. For those interested in our dead tree/missing trees in front of the building and our bushes and hedges on the North side that need tending, this work will be done at the conclusion of the sidewalk replacement project scheduled for this summer.  Speaking of trees, our three trees with bright white blooms were particularly gorgeous this year. Maybe they liked all that slush and snow and ice.
