Game On: Brooklyn Heights Association Announces Support of Pierhouse Foes “Save the View Now”
by Homer Fink on January 6, 2015 1:48 pm in brooklyn bridge park
This just in — the Brooklyn Heights Association has released a statement supporting Steve Guterman’s Save the View Now campaign to curb the height of Brooklyn Bridge Park’s Pierhouse:
A decade ago, the BHA lobbied on behalf of our community to protect the iconic views of the Brooklyn Bridge by limiting the height of development in the park. In recent months, we have watched in stunned disbelief as construction of the Pierhouse has obscured those views.
Two weeks ago, Brooklyn Heights resident Steve Guterman started an on-line campaign: Save the View Now. As a new, independent, grass-roots organization, Save the View Now is ready to take a fresh stand. Save the View Now promises, in Steve’s words, a “laser-like focus” on the singular goal of saving the views of the Brooklyn Bridge, a goal we whole-heartedly support. The BHA encourages our members to sign his petition.

Squadron to Host Town Hall on “Making Albany Work for Our Neighborhoods”
State Senator Daniel Squadron will host a Town Hall Meeting tonight, December 11, starting at 6:30 p.m. in the Forchelli Conference Center at the Brooklyn Law School, 205 State Street, 22nd floor (between Court Street and Boerum Place). The meeting’s topic will be “Reforming the State: Making Albany Work for Our Neighborhoods.” I never knew what an absurd stranglehold Albany has on what are local issues that should be decided locally until several years ago, when a there was a campaign to put a red light camera where traffic from Atlantic Avenue crosses to enter the LIE, in order to protect pedestrians going to Brooklyn Bridge Park. The word was that the City had reached a quota, imposed by Albany, on such cameras.
All are invited to this free event.
