The Squibb Park Bridge its bouncing back! Repairs on the long-shuttered, trampoline-like walkway that connects the Brooklyn Heights Promenade to the Brooklyn Bridge Park are finally finished, and park officials say they are just waiting on the paperwork so it can reopen, according to a rep for waterfront meadow. “The planned work on the Squibb Park Bridge remediation is now complete,” said park spokesman James Yolles. “We have filed the application to obtain our notice of completion, and await its response. The bridge remains on track to reopen this spring.”

Housing Works Thrift Shop Closing March 13
The Housing Works Thrift Shop, which has graced the spot between Kiehl’s and Haagen-Dazs on Montague Street just off Henry for some years, and which has provided your correspondent and his wife many bargains as well as a place to donate gently used but no longer needed items to serve the cause of the homeless and people with HIV, will close for business at the end of the day, Monday, March 13. The store is still accepting donations and is having a clearance sale, with all items marked down 50%. It will be closed on Wednesday, March 8 to prepare for a final spring event on the 9th, and will remain open for business through the 13th.
A staff member said the store is closing because the building has been sold “and the new owner doesn’t want us here.” There are no plans to relocate the store in the neighborhood.

Brooklyn Heights Association Challenges Pier 6 Development
BHA continues to press its case fighting a two-tower development on Pier 6 in Brooklyn Bridge Park, BHA President Patrick Killackey said. “We recently received affirmation of our most fundamental [legal] arguments.”
Killackey was referring to property valuations released by the city’s Finance Department last month which show that two residential towers planned for Brooklyn Bridge Park’s Pier 6 may not be not financially necessary. The city’s new valuations show that private high-end developments already built in the waterfront park will bring in much more money than the park corporation projected, BHA says — rendering the Pier 6 project unwarranted.
Brooklyn Bridge Park’s Interim President David Lowin says BHA’s claims are erroneous.
UPDATE: The NYS Supreme Court has postponed the hearing, which had been set for March 6. The new hearing date before NYS Supreme Court Justice Lucy Billings will be Friday, March 17 at 11 a.m. at 71 Thomas St., Room 203, in Manhattan.
